The concept of writing the history of our unique group of seniors and their dream of building a new Senior Centre in Sechelt has become a reality. In 1969 Elizabeth Derby (click to see picture) started to put a book together from minutes taken at meetings held in the Mermaid
Street building. The Centre at that time was known as Branch 69 of the Provincial Association of Seniors. In the years 1992 - 1996 Larry Grafton (click to see picture) took over the task of writing the history. Following this, Bonnie Hewitt began the massive task of reading through all the notes written

by Elizabeth and Larry, together with minutes of all the meetings held during those years. Bonnie added her own notes that were prepared for the ensuing years 1997 through to the end of 1999. In 1998 the membership of Branch 69 voted to separate from the Provincial association and by January 21, 1999 our Centre was renamed Sechelt Seniors Activity Centre Society.
All of this information was transcribed in book form. Pictures were then obtained and matched to the events described. The book is finished but it has never been printed due to the many coloured pictures making it too costly at this time. This book may be viewed upon request.
